Natalie’s Visit to Discovery Field Days – Pumpkin 2025

Earlier this month, Natalie traveled to El Albujón, Spain, to attend Discovery Field Days – Pumpkin 2025, an event hosted by the leading seed & vegetable breeding company Enza Zaden. Designed to highlight innovation in cultivation, this year’s event focused especially on the Butternut segment, while also showcasing a diverse and high-performing pumpkin portfolio.

The purpose of the Discovery Field Days is to foster meaningful connections between producers, researchers, and commercial partners while exploring new business opportunities, and Natalie had the chance to experience this collaborative spirit firsthand.

EXPLORING THE FIELDS

One of the most memorable parts of Natalie’s visit was the opportunity to walk the fields with local growers. She observed the care and precision that goes into each stage of production, from planting to harvesting. The dedication of these growers coupled with the quality of Enza Zaden’s varieties really stood out to her.

MEETING THE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT TEAM

Natalie also spent time with the team behind Enza Zaden’s research and development efforts. She gained insights into the development processes and learned how Enza Zaden focuses on creating varieties that excel in taste, shelf life, disease resistance, and yield. The innovation and science driving their work was impressive and inspiring!

A LOOK INSIDE THE PACK HOUSE

Her visit continued with a stop at the pack house, where she saw how the butternut squash are processed post-harvest. From sorting to packaging, the facility showcased modern techniques designed to maintain quality and efficiency throughout the supply chain.

Growing Together

The theme of this year’s event “Let’s grow together—from profitable quality to market leadership” was reflected in every aspect of the program. Natalie’s visit offered a deep appreciation for the innovation, collaboration, and agricultural excellence that drive the pumpkin industry forward.

A heartfelt thank-you to the Enza Zaden Team for their warm hospitality and for putting together such an engaging and informative event.
